It's always a great treat to copy other artists work...in fact it's much easier cuz now you know that it doesn't hafta look real...it's a painting itself!

Leonardo Da Vinci goes down in history as the most well known artist...and he deserved every inch of his success and fame... as he was not only an artist but a great sculptor and an inventer too. It gets me psyched sometimes to look at the drawings of his flying machines and the like , drawn so many centuries ago .

I remember doing the Mona Lisa once in 5th grade ( quite a flop ) , and another in 11th grade , both on paper . The advantage of drawing on computer is simply too much . Magnification , unlimited colours, perfect canvas , and no worries of spilling your paint bottle over your work !

Mona Lisa

I took a few days for this one. Actually the face got me stuck for most of the time...I had left it for the end cuz I knew something would go wrong! Even now it's not perfect but then , if it was perfect I'd be Da Vinci wouldn't I ? ;-)

She isn't actually smiling...she's actually coming into or out of a smile and that is the one thing which stood out in the master piece which made it so famous . I've tried my best but the accuracy is only as much as it looks in the World Book Encyclopaedia...which I used as my reference drawing. But the thing I enjoyed the most in this painting was signing my name in the end! :))

I have a really lot of primitive versions for this picture. All who are interested to see 'em can simply click on the button below:
